Gingerboy Sledding

This tutorial is my own creation. Any resemblance to another is purely coincidental. Please
read my tutorial
Terms. I used Paintshop Pro 7.04, and it should work
in other versions. You'll need a knowledge of Paintshop Pro to make this tutorial. Have fun
and enjoy :)



What you will need for this tutorial:
Paintshop Pro
Here
Selections
Download.
Deco
Download.
Tube
Download.

Unzip your Selections into you Selections folder. If you don't have one you can create one easily.
Unzip your Deco download into your Image folder.
Unzip your tube download into your tubes folder.

Make sure to save your work as you go along!

Open a New Image, 450x450, transparent 16.7 million color.

SAUCER
1. Add a new layer, name it saucer.
2. Selections/loadfromdisk/saucer.sel
3. Floodfill with #C00000.
4. Effects/Noise/Add 6, Uniform Checked.
5. Selections/Invert.
6. Effects/3Deffects/Dropshadow apply these settings:
Vertical 0
Horizontal 0
Opacity 50
Blur 76.5
Color Black
DESELECT

SAUCER RIM
1. Add a new layer, name it rim.
2. Selections/loadfromdisk/rim.sel
3. Floodfill with #C00000.
4. Effects/3Deffects/Innerbevel apply these settings:
Preset Round with these changes
Width 7
Smoothness 0
Depth 3
Ambience -4
Shininess 21
Color White
Angle 315
Intensity 50
Elevation 30
DESELECT

SAUCER MERGE
1.Shut off your layer1 by clicking on the eyeglasses and keep them shutoff until the end of the tutorial.
2. Right click onto your "Saucer" layer, Merge/MergeVisible.
3. Rename this layer Saucer.

BODY
1. Add a new layer, name it body.
2. Selections/loadfromdisk/body.sel
3. Floodfill with #AF9363.
4. Effects/Noise/Add 6, Uniform Checked.
DO NOT DESELECT
5. Selections/Invert
6. Effects/3Deffects/Dropshadow apply these settings:
Vertical 0
Horizontal 0
Opacity 50
Blur 61.7
Color # 54492A
DESELECT

**NOTE: Now we're going to do the Body Parts now. The Dropshadow will be the same for all of them. The Floodfill color is also the same #54492A.**

RIGHT LEG
1. Add a new layer, name it rightleg.
2. Selections/loadfromdisk/rightleg.sel
3. Floodfill with #AF9363.
4. Effects/Noise/Add 6, Uniform Checked.
5. Selections/Invert.
6. Effects/3Deffects/Dropshadow apply these settings:

LEFT LEG
1. Add a new layer, name it leftleg.
2. Selections/loadfromdisk/leftleg.sel
3. Floodfill with #AF9363.
4. Effects/Noise/Add 6, Uniform Checked.
5. Selections/Invert.
6. Effects/3Deffects/Dropshadow (apply settings).
DESELECT

RIGHT FOOT
1. Add a new layer, name it rightfoot.
2. Selections/loadfromdisk/rightfoot.sel
3. Floodfill with #AF9363.
4. Effects/Noise/Add 6, Uniform Checked.
5. Selections/Invert.
6. Effects/3Deffects/Dropshadow (apply settings).
DESELECT

LEFT FOOT
1. Add a new layer, name it leftfoot.
2. Selections/loadfromdisk/leftfoot.sel
3. Floodfill with #AF9363.
4. Effects/Noise/Add 6, Uniform Checked.
5. Selectons/Invert.
6. Effects/3Deffects/Dropshadow (apply settings).
DESELECT

CANDYCANE
1. Add a new layer, name it candycane.
2. Open your candycane image.
3. Edit/Copy
4. Make your gingerbreadboy image active.
5. Edit/Paste as a new layer.
6. Use your Mover Tool         to move your candycane up some. You can adjust it to your liking once you get your hands and head on :)
7. Rename this layer candycane.

RIGHT HAND
1. Add a new layer, name it righthand.
2. Selections/loadfromdisk/righthand.sel
3. Floodfill with #AF9363.
4. Effects/Noise/Add 6, Uniform Checked.
5. Selections/Invert.
6. Effects/3Deffects/Dropshadow (apply settings).
DESELECT

LEFT HAND
1. Add a new layer, name it lefthand.
2. Selections/loadfromdisk/lefthand.sel
3. Floodfill with #AF9363.
4. Effects/Noise/Add 6, Uniform Checked.
5. Selections/Invert.
6. Effects/3Deffects/Dropshadow (apply settings).
DESELECT

HEAD
1. Add a new layer, name it head.
2. Selections/loadfromdisk/head.sel
3. Floodfill with #AF9363
4. Effects/Noise/Add 6, Uniform Checked.
5. Selections/Invert.
6. Effects/3Deffects/Dropshadow apply these settings:
Vertical 0
Horizontal 0
Opacity 50
Blur 39.5
Color #54492A
DESELECT
**NOTE: Now you can use your Mover Tool          and place your candycane where you'd like :)

MERGING BODY
1. Shut off layer 1 and Saucer layer, by Clicking on the eyeglasses.
2. Right Click on "body layer"to activate it, Merge/MergeVisible.
3. Rename the Merged layer "gingerboy".
4. Click on the eyeglasses of your "body layer" to open it up, but keep layer 1 shutoff until the end of the tutorial. (that will be for your background).

HAIR
1. Add a new layer, name it hair.
2. Selections/loadfromdisk/hair.sel
3. Floodfill with White.
4. Effects/3Deffects/InnerBevel apply these settings:
Preset Round with these changes:
Width 5
Smoothness 0
Depth 2
Ambience 0
Shininess 17
Color White
Angle 315
Intensity 50
Elevaton 30
DESELECT

EARMUFFS
1. Open up your earmuffs.psp download.
2. Edit/Coppy, Edit/Paste as a new layer.
3. Use your Mover Tool        to put the earmuffs in place.   

EYES
1. Add a new layer, name it eyes.
2. Selections/loadfromdisk/eyes.sel
3. Floodfill with Black.
4. Effects/3Deffects/InnerBevel Preset "Round".
DESELECT

NOSE
1. Add a new layer, name it nose.
2. Selections/loadfromdisk/nose.sel
3. Floodfill with #C00000.
4. Effects/3Deffects/InnerBevel apply these settings:
Preset Round with these changes:
Width 5
Smootness 0
Depth 2
Ambience 0
Shininess 17
Color White
Angle 315
Intensity 50
Elevation 30
DESELECT

CHEEKS
1. Add a new layer, name it cheeks.
2. Selections/loadfromdisk/cheeks.sel
3. Floodfill with #B5716B.
DESELECT
4. Go to your cheeks layer in layer pallette and turn opacity down to 40.
5. You may have to use your Mover Tool to place them.





MOUTH
1. Use your Draw Tool.
2. Color Black.
3. Options settings are:
Freehand line
Width 1
Line Style Solid line
Antialias Checked.
4. Draw your line curved from one cheek to the other. (see screenshot).




HIGHLIGHTS
1. Add a new layer, name it highlights.
2. Use your Draw Tool.
3. Color White
4. Option settings:
Freehand line
Width 2
Line Style Solid line
Antialias Checked.
5. Draw a curve line on each foot and hand, just below the shadow. (see screenshot).
6. Effects/Blur/GaussianBlur set it at 3.97

HANDLES
1. Add a new layer, name it handles.
2. Selections/loadfromdisk/handles.sel
3. Floodfill with #FFFF40.
4. Effects/3Deffects/Innerbevel apply these settings:
Preset Round with these changes:
Width 5
Smoothness 0
Depth 2
Ambience 0
Shininess 17
Color White
Angle 315
Intensity 50
Elevation 30
DESELECT

If you run into those dreaded jaggies this is what I do to get rid of them. There are several ways, but I find this is what works for me :)
1. Use your Retouch tool.
2. Tool Options Retouch apply these settings
3. Just brush the edges smoothing the jaggies,
be careful too much and it might blur, if so
just undo and begin again.
